Weekly Thoughts & Devotions

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16.

We all remember receiving our first driver’s license. At first we drove cautiously observing all the rules but as time went by our vigilance decreased and caution was ignored. We drove on autopilot, until some significant event occurred such as receiving a traffic citation or involvement in an accident. The result of such events reset our driving back to that which we practiced right after receiving a driver’s license. These cycles continue recurring for most of us as long as we drive an automobile.

Peter tells us in I Peter 5:8-11 that we must continually guard against the same type recurrences in our spiritual life. 8. “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. 10. In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11. All power to him forever! Amen.”
