We have all felt the effects of both worry and stress. But what exactly is the difference between the two? Worry refers to the uncomfortable feeling we get when we are wrestling with particular shortterm problems in life. Stress on the other hand, is a generalized, long lasting state of unease that pervades our subconscious and affects our body and mind day in and out.
Worry is an emotion that can even be used for something positive. It can help motivate us to work on solving some particular problem we have been stewing over. Stress, on the other hand, does not help solve any of our problems. Rather it just sits around causing damage to our bodies and minds while not helping us in any way.
The Bible says in Luke 12:22-24, “Do not be anxious in your life…”. God has promised to take care of us and He wants us to be the kind of people who are positive and happy because we have faith in Him to keep His promises. He knew that other negative things go along with stress and anxiety. We tend to become irritable, nervous and impatient. It’s hard to show the Christian light to others when we let those emotions take over.
Minimizing worry and stress is easier said than done. But we should make a renewed effort to trust in His promises and kick stress and worry to the curb. We can then enjoy the serenity that comes with His promises and show our light to others.
