North Highlands Family,
We come to you with grateful hearts for the trust you have placed in each of us as the elders of North Highlands. It is an honor to serve you and our living God. May the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be poured out on each of you.
We have had a good year. God has answered many prayers this year. He has blessed us with the healing of many of our sick, baptism and restoration of many members, strength to our missionaries, and spiritual growth of the saints here at North Highlands. We have had new families join us and some move away. Jack and Kay Henson will be greatly missed but we wish them well and pray for their health and happiness as they continue their Christian walk in the next chapter of their life. We consider ourselves to have been blessed by being able to call them our brother and sister and true friends.
While we have had a very good year, there is more to do. It is our deep desire to continue our growth as Christians and to continue to spread the gospel both here in Russellville and the world. It is our desire to continue the works we have started and add new ones. When we look at the works we support, we know these are important to the charge God has put before us to spread the gospel. While we struggle each week to meet our budget we have faith that God will fulfill our needs. We are also reminded of what Jesus said in Luke 14:28-30 “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it — lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?”
We put these challenges before the congregation:
- Giving - We ask each family to examine your giving. There are things we want to do, that several of you have asked us to do, but we cannot if we count the cost with our current contribution.
- Attendance - Examine your attendance. Does God want me at church? For Sunday School, for Sunday morning worship service, for Sunday evening worship, for Wednesday bible study? Our growth as a Christian, which God desires and requires, would make us answer yes to attending all.
- Works - Also examine your Christian works, your involvement here at North Highlands. As the writer of James tells us faith without works is dead. Let’s be alive in Christ!
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.....” Ephesians 1:17-19
In deepest love in Christ,
